End of XP support for ManagedEsent. Thoughts?

Jul 24, 2015 at 5:47 PM
It would make the code simpler if we tore out support for Windows XP. (We could get rid of all of the ANSI APIs.)

XP was a great OS, released in 2001, at a time when everybody had CRT monitors because the only affordable LCD screens were on laptops, and a 40 GB hard drive was a reasonable size. But it's no longer receiving critical updates.

However it looks like many people are still running XP (including some of my family members...).

Wikipedia says 12%.

Is it a big deal to cut support for Windows XP?

Hi Martin, I would say that dropping XP support is a logical step. For me, only Win 7+/2008R2+ support is critical.
But getting bugfix releases more than once a year would really be great.
